Mariola Przyjemska ‘What a wonderful world’

In 2015, Mariola Przyjemska created the painting series Warsaw Under Construction, which commented on the gentrification processes occurring in the very center of Warsaw and the immediate vicinity of her apartment and studio near Rondo ONZ. The series subtly combined admiration with a critical perspective, emphasizing the allure and interplay of desires embedded in the capitalist order. Almost a decade later, the artist returns to the medium of painting, reexamining the seductive power of luxury while more directly addressing the relationship between capitalism and totalitarian systems. Her new series is based on photographic documentation created during her stay in Paris in February 2024. Observing the storefronts of luxury fashion brands in Paris—the historic capital of art and fashion—Przyjemska deepens her reflection on temptation, exploitation, and consumption at twilight.
